NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE

Rodgers Forge is part of the greater Towson area and consists of approximately 1,800 households. The overwhelming majority of homes are brick rowhomes, built between the 1930s and '50s. The oldest homes in Rodgers Forge boast three levels plus a basement, some with 5 and 6 bedrooms and garages. The entire Rodgers Forge neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 because of its unique status as a well-preserved example of early to mid-20th Century community design and architecture. Indeed, Rodgers Forge is also known for its stringent limitations on exterior alterations to properties in order to maintain its original look and character.

The neighborhood is known for its attractive tree-lined streets, active community association, strong neighborhood schools and citizen participation, tot lot and community open space, and its walkability. In 2013, Rodgers Forge was recognized by Baltimore Magazine as one of the “Best Kept Secrets” in Baltimore. Indeed, Rodgers Forge has increasingly become one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the Baltimore Region for those who want the best of both worlds that “urban-suburban” living has to offer.

Rodgers Forge is unique in that it blends the qualities of a family-friendly, small town atmosphere where neighbors know and watch out for each other, while being nestled in a bustling metropolitan area between Baltimore City and Towson, which is the County seat of Baltimore. Downtown Towson is only 1.5 miles from Rodgers Forge, with its many shops, restaurants, and offices, as well as home to the popular Towson Town Center shopping mall and the newly opened Towson Square multiplex theater and entertainment complex.

Towson is also home to two universities: Towson University and Goucher College. Many international families who come to Baltimore for fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and other regional institutions live in Rodgers Forge because of the high quality of life found here. There is also frequent public transit service which serves Rodgers Forge, as well as a growing interest locally in sustainable activities such as increasing walking and biking activity, growing produce locally, providing solar energy, and preserving and expanding local tree cover and open space.

Together, there is strong community spirit and pride in Rodgers Forge, and many ways for residents to participate in neighborhood life, ranging from volunteering on neighborhood committees, to community block parties, to the Annual Summer Picnic, plus other family-oriented events like Outdoor Movie Nights, the Easter Egg Hunt, and Santa Claus visits.
