Councilman Marks to downzone west side of York Road

On Thursday night at the Towson Communities Association, Councilman David Marks committed to downzoning the west side of York Road from Dumbarton to Overbrook (home to Bank of America, Starbucks, etc.) to Community Business (CB). The RFCA, and many residents, had been urging him to make this zoning change and we appreciate his decision.

Councilman Marks said he is still undecided about what, if any, zoning changes should happen on the east side of that strip (home to the former Uncle Wiggly’s, Ayd Hardware, the bowling alley, etc.). The Anneslie Community Association has urged him to rezone that strip as BLR (Business Local Restricted) and the RFCA has also formally requested BLR for the east side of York. This potential zoning change, which can happen only every four years, comes as many of the east-side properties are getting a new owner who does not want the area downzoned. (Read more about that here.)

We thank Councilman Marks for the CB decision and urge him to also rezone the east side of York Road to BLR. If you would like to share your thoughts with Councilman Marks, he can be reached at dmarks@baltimorecountymd.gov or 410-887-3384. He is also on Facebook and Twitter.
